The African Union (AU)
Agenda: Combating Extremism and Terrorism in the Sahel Region
The African Union (AU) is a continental organization formed by African nations with the aim of promoting unity, solidarity, and development across the African continent. One of the primary aims of the AU is to foster peace and security in Africa. It works towards preventing conflicts, mediating disputes, and promoting peaceful resolutions. Through initiatives like the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the AU seeks to enhance the capacity of African states to manage conflicts effectively and maintain stability. By prioritizing peace and security, the AU aims to create an enabling environment for sustainable development and the well-being of African citizens.
Another key aim of the AU is to promote socio-economic development and integration across Africa. The organization strives to stimulate economic growth, eradicate poverty, and enhance the standard of living for all Africans. It does this through various initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to boost intra-African trade, foster economic cooperation, and create opportunities for job creation and investment. The AU also prioritizes the development of infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture to improve the overall socio-economic conditions of African nations. By fostering integration and cooperation, the AU aims to harness the collective potential of African countries, promote sustainable development, and enhance the overall well-being of African people.

The Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) is a key body within the United Nations, responsible for shaping the global agenda on crime prevention and criminal justice. Its mandate is to provide policy guidance and coordination to UN organizations and Member States, aiming to promote international cooperation and innovative solutions to combat crime and ensure justice.
As the governing body of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the CCPCJ oversees the implementation of the UN’s crime program, setting priorities and goals. Additionally, it serves as the preparatory and implementing body of the quinquennial UN Congresses on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, major events that bring together experts and policymakers to discuss pressing issues and shape the global agenda.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ)
Agenda: 20th of December 2019 - The Case of Alfred Yekatom and Patrice - Edouard Ngaissona
This year, our committee integrates the mandates of both the ICJ and the ICC, offering a sophisticated and dynamic forum for legal examination and adjudication.
Delegates will engage with the landmark case of Alfred Yekatom and Patrice-Edouard Ngaissona, exploring the complexities of international law. Sessions will alternate between traditional Model UN procedures and rigorous trial simulations, allowing delegates to assume roles as defense attorneys or prosecutors. This structure provides a unique opportunity to examine issues of state responsibility and individual culpability, culminating in informed verdicts that reflect the delegates’ legal insights.
